Otherwise known as Nigel and Kristin Law, they are a husband and wife team and co-owners of Savannah Canoe and Kayak. Originally from England, Nigel's outdoor career in the United States began 13 years ago as a Program Director at a camp for the disabled. His professional experience in the paddlesports industry includes working as a manager and guide trainer at a local outfitter's, as well as instructing and guiding for Rutabaga Outdoor Programs in the Great Lakes area. As well as studying in the Middle East and Eastern Europe, Kristin has a Degree in Anthropology and speaks several languages. She has worked as a commercial kayak guide and instructor for 7 years. "A few years ago we paddled 3,000 miles from Wisconsin to the Florida Keys - and then took on the even more ambitious project of writing a book about it. Other trips have taken us to many parts of the world...Central America, Africa, India, and Europe." We moved here seven years ago for one reason...the paddling. With dozens of undeveloped barrier islands, lazy rivers, and a terrific climate, the little discovered Georgia coast is a painter's paradise. That's why we started Savannah Canoe and Kayak. GUEST INSTRUCTORS , GUIDES AND SPEAKERS Stephen Lockwood. Apprentice Guide. Our newest and youngest member of the team is the son of Dan, a local adventure paddler. Stephen, age 17, is learning all aspects of commercial guiding as well as receiving SCK's extensive kayak training . Already an avid paddler, Stephen is another Arts Academy boy who's childhood has been immersed in the outdoors. Strong and polite will sum him up for now. Willey Hazelhurst ACA Open Water Instructor - NOLS Instructor. A great guide with a great deal of experience, Willey personifies the Ga coast...mellow and interesting. Zachary Smith. ACA Basic Coastal Kayak Instructor & Eagle Scout. From Savannah, age 23. Weaned from an early age on a diet of alfalfa sprouts and jazz music, Zac has been sea kayaking since he was a small boy scout. He's now quite tall, has a beard, owns a Nordkappe, and dreams of hiking the AT. Steve Braden. ACA IT Advanced Open Water/ BCU Coach 3 A1. When doubt arises, we say " What would Steve Braden do ?". In nearly 20 years of sea kayaking, Steve has paddled the GA coast many, many times. A keen coastal naturalist, Steve is dedicated to protecting and preserving the Georgia coast. He's also hiked the AT with his wife (Zac, take note). Combined with his powerful and consistent technique, Steve's teaching style is calm, kind and methodical. Steve runs our BCU Assessments and camping expeditions. Larry Dixon. ACA Open Water Sea Kayak Instructor. Larry started looking for the perfect kayak about 20 years ago. He has since owned just about every sea kayak available and financially supported GA coast paddlesports from day 'one'. Larry can be easily recognized on the water...often not sitting in his cockpit, or perhaps surfing backwards on large waves without a paddle ! We can think of no one better than Larry to run our Kayaks 101 class. Ben Lawry. ACA IT Advanced Open Water Sea Kayak/ White Water. Moved here a few years ago from Virginia, Ben Lawry is our token fitness fanatic. We all feel much better knowing Ben is 'out there' reaching maximum kayak velocity in his Carbon Stealth Prowler. We also like the fact that he's thought intently about the details of kayaking, is a mine of paddlesports information and technique, and is very eager to share it all. Ben teaches our Instructor Development Workshops and will be presenting several lectures. Mike Robinson. Life Long GA Coast Resident, Guide, Interpretive Naturalist. Mike is a authority on all things coastal, all things natural. When he speaks we listen. Tammy Smith. All summer long and pretty much single handedly, Tammy monitors all the sea turtle activity on Little Tybee. Volunteering many hours to very important research Tammy has our utmost respect and gratitude. We paddle by her on a regular basis and get 'real time data' on turtle movements.
